BEGINNER CODING CLUB - (4TH-8TH GRADE) *meets every other week, 8 meetings total per semester Instructor: Pam Yandt ****************PLEASE NOTE*******************
Before the first day of class please create a free account and log into scratch with
your child. Make sure they know their password and username. This will ensure class
can begin promptly without any issues. You will need a laptop computer or iPad with a
keyboard. If you do not have a keyboard for your device we can work around that.
These devices need to be able to connect to the internet. Please remove pop up
blockers and any parental controls that may prohibit your child during class. Please note
that those with iPads may have to “test” their project at home with a keyboard as most
of the projects do require keys in order to work.
Objective:This will be a fun class that will expose them to the world of coding. They can
play with and adapt their coding to make it their own! We will be doing 8 projects over
the semester that will be mini games or digital art. The students will also have an
opportunity to “show and tell” if they would like to. While this is a fun class I do need
them to pay close attention in order for their project to work.
Description: Is your child interested in learning to code? This class is for them! Each week students will create a game or digital art project through Scratch. A scratch account is required. Please note: Each student must bring a device to class. This can be an ipad with keyboard, laptop or another type of tablet with keyboard. Some of the games we will create will be survival style games, octopus chase, dodgeball, and a “frogger” style game. Hope to see you there!
Participants must be entering grades 4 to 8.
